The “buckle seat belt” symbol keeps popping up on the dashboard for the driver’s seat even though the seat belt is certainly buckled. This happens off and on throughout a drive, but it does happen at least once every time the car is driven. Other than the constant dinging and the dashboard light, the seatbelt seems to be working properly.
My 2005 e90 has developed a problem ever since I cleaned a stain off the upholstery of the half-leather sport seats on the passenger side. Now, even when the seat is empty the warning chime goes off and the seatbelt light is illuminated as if someone were in the seat. If I plug the seatbelt in it goes away.I figure this is an occupancy sensor issue but I don't have an airbag warning at all, just the seatbelt issue. The car must just think the mat is always occupied and not notice an actual 'error'.Can this be coded out so the seatbelt light disappears (I know you can stop the chime but I want the light out also)? Is there a way to trick the seatbelt buckle so it thinks a belt is always plugged in? I don't mind the car thinking the seat is occupied when its not as I understand that this just means that the airbags will always deploy even if the seat is empty - I'm okay with that.Lastly, how much is a new mat in the UK if anyone knows.Thanks. If it were my car, I'd replace the seat occupancy sensor. I'd want that sensor to work be working for my passenger in the event of a collision.Code it out if you don't love your passengers so much.I don't know how much the sensors cost but I recently took an e90 seat apart. My advice to you is to get a good pair of clippers to cut off all the hog rings.
Don't bother with putting new hog rings back in (I did). I find that it's much much easier to use small zip ties instead. Hog rings are a big-itch to install! If it were my car, I'd replace the seat occupancy sensor.

Hog rings are a big-itch to install! My passengers will be fine - the seat thinks there is someone in there when there isn't, not vice versa. If there is a passenger in the car then every airbag will fire as it should. If there isn't a passenger then every air bag will still fire.Wasted airbags don't bother me. I had the same problem after intensively cleaning the passenger seat with a spray. The seat belt light (not the airbag indicator) stayed on, even when there was no passenger and after a few hundred meters the alarm started. The light and alarm went out when I connected the belt. I found this thread and hoped the problem would disappear after a few weeks, in the mean time I started studying the security system of my car and was impressed by its sophistication.I didn't have to wait a few weeks, after a few days everything came back to normal.
Some liquid in the cushion seems to be sufficient to tell the car there is a passenger in the seat. I am wondering what would happen with the airbag in the case of a collision. I have 2008 BMW 320 (e90). My problem is with seatbelt and airbag light when someone sit in passenger seat. Dealer didnt go for a recall mat sensor so i found another solution, to buy a bypass emulator, to keep the computer to think that seat is always occupied. Everything worked fine, until someone was sitting there, in moment when noone was there - seatbelt light is on and that stupid noise to put on seatbelt.
I found a code to remove that seatbelt chime (SBRBEIFAHRER1 and set it to nichtaktiv in ABG module with NCS Expert.) Okey, the sound is now gone, but the light is still on while noone is there. I dont want to always put in passenger seatbelt while im driving alone to get rid of the seatbelt light, so i wanted to ask is there some kind a code to disable that seatbelt light?
Every help would be appreciated. Back from the dead thread:Been having this issue with my E90 335xi for the past two weeks. When I am driving with nobody in the passenger seat, the sensor decides that someone is sitting on the seat, and the seatbelt light + chime annoyingly comes on for about 45 seconds then off. Then will come on again randomly. Wondering if others have had this issue. I prefer not to get this coded 'off'.These are your options.1) Replace entire passenger seat2) Replace occupancy sensor mat seat. Requires disassembly of seat to separate cushion and leather / upholstery.3) Install dongle that bypasses seat sensor4) Code out seat sensor sensor after having it unplugged.5) Live with it.
You can just buckle the belt to get rid of the alarm.
